The Lac des Iles Mine, located 90 minutes northwest of Thunder Bay, Ontario, features a unique, world-class ore body with modern infrastructure, including both an underground mine and surface operations.
About 800 people make up the Impala Canada family, including employees and contractors. The LDI Mine is one of only two known pure palladium sources in North America. Palladium contributes to a cleaner global environment, with its leading use being in catalytic converters that reduce harmful emissions from gas-powered and hybrid vehicles.
In 2017, we successfully transitioned from longhole open stoping to the sublevel shrinkage (SLS) mining method in the lower part of the mine, which has increased total ore recovery, lowered operating costs, raised production rates and improved geotechnical ground conditions.
Today, our focus is on safe, reliable production, operational excellence, and disciplined cost management at our LDI Mine Site.
